When the school year ends and kids are home for the summer, there are many that will get bored rather easily. Some may become bored and frustrated because they love learning and going to school each day. There are also those that need extra help with one or two classes. For those students who really enjoy learning and are gifted in intellectual ways, there are many options to choose from for a summer education program.
The Center for Talented Youth
There are options no matter what the interest may be of your child. The Center for Talented Youth is available in over 20 locations across the United States and Hong Kong. These summer education camps are open for students in grades 2 through 5, are daytime only programs. For those in the 5th through 7th grade, there are options for residential or daytime classes only. The remaining grades are residential camps, meaning they basically live there.
The courses available in each three-week session include math, science, and computer science, along with others that can be used towards high school credits for graduation.
The Summer Institute For The Gifted
The Summer Institute for the Gifted has daytime only courses, and also a residential program. These are held at various schools across the nation including Princeton, Bryn Mawr, and UCLA to name a few. Students of all ages Kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible. For the students up to 6th grade, they attend day only classes. The remaining grades are residential programs.
Courses are varied amongst the schools throughout the seven states they are in. You can be assured that most interests are covered. Weekends in the residential program allows for cultural activities and field trips.
Immerse Education is a summer education program where the student and you can decide what subjects to study during the program. It is a great opportunity for young students to travel as well. Below is a list of everything included in this program.

Concordia Language Villages Summer Camp
For students interested in different languages, Concordia Language Villages Summer Camp is the one for them. This camp is available for students 7 years and up. The camps can last from one week to four weeks. Located mainly in Minnesota, there are a few other locations, including overseas.
When a student participates in this camp, they speak only the language of that “village”. The village is a camp, one for each language. There are fifteen different language villages at Concordia’s Language Villages Summer Camp.
Green River Preserve
For the gifted students who enjoy the environment, there is a summer program for them also. With two types of programs available, there is sure to be one to please your gifted student. The Base Camp is held right on the Preserve, and sessions can be 5 days or up to 3 weeks. These are for students in grades 2 through 9.
The Expedition is a camp for 9th through 12th-grade gifted students. The two locations for Expedition Camp are The Blue Ridge Mountains and The Outer Banks. Activities will include backpacking, kayaking, and canoeing. These locations host a camp for two or three weeks.
